I don't really listen to jazz, but I think the mash-up certainly sounded a bit too crazy. I think it was meant to just be another of the charmingly amusing quirks of Pawnee's public radio.  Still, it's just so hilarious.  Even in a (in my opinion) marginally weaker than usual season like this, it's the little things

The return of Pawnee's NPR-esque public radio station bumped this up from a B+ to an A- for me.  "Jazz Plus Jazz Equals Jazz."

More like best song-of-any-length ever.

As to whether they should qualify as "very long songs," I'd say, "Xanadu": yes, "Red Barchetta": no.  But I just love that song so much; there's so few songs that I can get so thoroughly absorbed in as "Red Barchetta".  I've always been a big fan of "Cygnus Book II", but it was only recently that I was able to get

@avclub-40dc04bf8a3d8a3849549a03a6605295:disqus I mean, the other long Decemberists songs are ore like multi-part songs, but yeah, a live performance in someone's home-studio of "The Mariner's Revenge Song" on Youtube is what got me into The Decemberists in the first place, and it is my favorite song of theirs.

And The Crane Wife is very possibly The Decemberist's best album.

I listen to quite a bit of prog, so I listen to a ton of very, very, very long songs, so since everybody else is doing it, here's my obligatory list:
Rush:  "2112", "Red Barchetta", "Xanadu", "Natural Science"
Led Zeppelin:  "No Quarter", "In My Time of Dying", "When the Levee Breaks"
Tool:  "Pushit", "Lateralus", "Wings

False.  Floyd's best album would be "Meddle."  But seriously, "Animals" is fucking amazing.

Wait, Tool isn't prog?  I've also always loved "Lateralus" and even some of the longer stuff off of "10,000 Days" (I don't understand why that album seems to get so little love from fans compared with the others.  "Wings pt. 2" may be the most moving thing they've ever written).

I agree with @avclub-487cf32249fbaaa5a79258e26d54fe19:disqus on "Teeth like God's Shoeshine".  "Other People's Lives" is pretty great too.  And I'd put "The Tain", "The Mariner's Revenge Song", and "The Island" up there with "California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade" as serious competitors for The Decemberists' best

"No Quarter" and "In My Time of Dying" also deserve serious consideration from Led Zeppelin.
