Personally I think the finger wagging is just as silly. Especially since those same fingers tend to wag about "whitewashing" when white actors take non-white parts.

To be fair, you could never successfully patent something like that. The most basic criterion for a patent is that it be "novel," i.e. nobody else was making/doing/talking about it or something insufficient different from it before you. It also has to be "non-obvious."

But having ads could potentially compromise the AV Club's objectivity in luggage-related reporting in content labeled as sponsored! If that means the writers have to not get paid and they have to use 100 visitor a day free servers, then so be it.
