It's not explained in any particular depth, but he's the reason they're invading Earth. His TARDIS landed on their ship somewhere far out in space, and they captured him. To save his own skin, he made a deal that he'd bring them to a nice big ready-to-eat planet if they let him go.

I'm amenable, but it means we won't get back to the Patrick Troughton era for even longer.

I've wanted to get around to "Seeds" for a long time - it's also one of my favorites. Count on it coming up in one of the next open spots in the schedule.

It also would have given a much-needed kick to the way they ended that whole Key To Time storyline, which just kind of fizzled out.

>> Which 1st Doctor serials to watch.

>> I started catching it on PBS)

Perhaps you have traveled back and erased the previous reasonable discussions before they had a chance to evolve and take over the universe. Or it's just firsties.

The thing about the clunkers is that they're truly painful to watch, and often get me genuinely angry, but they can also be fun to eviscerate when I'm writing about them later - which, I hope, is also fun for people to read about.

I'm sure I will cover "The Krotons" just because it's one of the few remaining complete Troughtons - I just felt like checking out "The Dominators" first. I'm also thinking that maybe it might be good to add "The Gunfighters" to the schedule before the next Eleventh Doctor series begins.

Yeah, I might switch 'em. We'll see.

Oops. Serves me right for relying on memory and not looking it up. Thanks, I'll fix.

The monsters-eye view is definitely effective, but wasn't new to "Seeds Of Death" - it goes back all the way to episode one of "The Daleks."

Agreed on the cinematography. Besides the Zoe-on-the-ledge cliffhanger, the chase scene where the Doctor runs past the mirror is great. (And it kind of seems to hint at his regeneration at the end of "The War Games," but I'm guessing that was a coincidence.)

You're right; I'll change that to "partially."

The guy whose name I always spell wrong. I'll fix it.

I believe the theory first came up in the Doctor Who roleplaying game published by FASA in the 1980s, which claimed that the Monk, the War Chief, and the Master were all the same guy.

When they're bady written, sure. But the Master wants to conquer the Earth in "Terror of the Autons" because he's jealous of the Doctor and feels inferior to him, and thinks this will prove they're equals. And the Daleks want to conquer the universe because all other life terrifies them, which has made them grow mean
