But there are valid reasons for that anything-goes approach in both Scott Pilgrim and Kung Fu Hustle. The wackiness in SP emulates the similarly hyperactive and nonsensical aesthetics of old-school video games, and Kung Fu Hustle is supposed to be like a live-action cartoon.

I trust Destructoid. They have a clearly defined 10-point review scale where 5 is actually the middle, they're not afraid to give big games low scores, and the content of the review almost always reasonably justifies the score.
