I can talk to you about almost any NY hip hop album from 88-94, yet only know a handful of singles, if at all, from Geto Boys, DOC, E40, DJ Quik, Luke, 8Ball & MJG, UGK etc. I guess NYers really are snobs. Where to start?

You're right. For instance in 1995 Spin called Nation Of Millions the second greatest "alternative" album (I.e. post Beatles - any genre). So strange the Rabin wasn't into them even a little.

Public Enemy were arguably the biggest (most respected) group in hip hop from 88-91. The hip hop universe revolved around them as I recall.
