"Trot Out The Dead" was one of my favorite metal songs of the entire 00s.

The AV Club took some much guff for that Dawes stream that now they're just throwing out streams willy nilly.  "Guys - do with this stream what you choose.  We didn't bother reviewing it - or even listening to it!  Let us know if it's good…or don't!  Either way is ok!"

Klosterman's great.  I'd look up the articles he wrote for Spin on U2 and Big Country.  He also has some pretty great books (Fargo Rock City, Sex Drugs & Cocoa Puffs, Killing Yourself To Live, etc.)

Thanks UMD.  I never heard this song and was wondering if it was worth seeking out.  Now I have my answer.

No 52 Girls?  That's the jam!

Bill Simmons from ESPN says that it's a cliche to refer to something as a "trainwreck."  He recommends instead using the term "plane crash."

Here's my counterargument: My Morning Jacket, Black Keys, Mastodon, Fleet Foxes, Baroness, Lil Wayne, LCD Soundsystem, Wilco, Arcade Fire, Drive By Truckers, Kanye West, No Age, Agalloch, TV On The Radio, Deerhunter, FuckedUp, Action Bronson, Iceage, The War On Drugs, Wye Oak, Between The Buried And Me, Revocation,

Nah, music doesn't suck now either Dumbledore.  It never sucks.  There's always incredible music out there, it's just a question of how hard you need to look to find it.

Well Metallica's first three albums were total undistilled NWOBHM thrash, and the fourth was prog thrash.  They wanted to aim for the charts, so they completely streamlined their sound, wrote a ballad or two, and hired Motley Crue's producer to make them more accessible.  I'd say with the Black Album they absolutely

Sir Osis, did you make that up?  If so, I tip my cap.  Well done.  You seem to know a lot about trolling.  You don't have another handle called 4Chan or Karla Ha Ha, do you?

Lulu is an undisputed mess, but I would rather see Metallica make an album like this rather than just pandering to the charts (Black Album), trends (Load), or to what they think their audience wants (Death Magnetic).  But make no mistake, I have no plans to listen to Lulu.

It was definitely of a time.  U2 were the biggest band in the world, were selling out 80,000 seat stadiums, and it was the early 90s (when groups were concerned about art and not selling out), so why not release some nutty Achtung outtakes?  It was a cool career move, and nothing could have stopped U2 then anyway.

Dear AV Club,

37th Stegosaurus.

I'm really pissed at myself for missing the "Danzing Legacy" show this weekend (he plays a set of Danzig songs, a set of Samhain songs, and a set of Misfits songs [with Doyle]). Check out the set list:

I'm trying to remember - did In Living Color feature hip hop guests?  That in itself would be awesome to see.

Living Colour were pretty cool but I maintain that Vernon Reid ripped off his solos from Slayer.  I mean it!  Listen to the solo from "Cult of Personality" next to "Necrophobic".

I can't tell you for how many years I listened to this without having a clue as to the actual lyrics.  Ahh, the 80s (and 90s).

I love TSOL like the next guy, but Code Blue was kinda dumb.  It's not like anyone, including the group, took those boasts seriously.  And if it's not serious, it's a joke.  But like I said, I like TSOL too.

Every year I try to figure out what is the best Halloween song ever, Helloween's "Halloween" or The Misfits' "Halloween."  And yes, I'm being totally serious.
