I love early RFTC (gonna douse myself with gasoline and light myself on fire - I borrowed that line in more than one band), but Group Sounds is the album I reach for first.  I saw them for the first time on the Group Sounds tour, and these songs were fantastic live.

Can the academy take back their grammy and retroactively award it to Gillian Welch and David Rawlings instead?  Their album was better, and they know how to just take a break for a year or three instead of sniping on facebook.

I've been a fan of J. Tillman's since Seven States Across made the rounds years ago, and this album is another great one from him.  Sub Pop is a real step up from the early days, when he was on a label that would only press a single run of a hundred or so copies of their releases.
