Yeah, I thought the whole point of making the stronger steel the entire focus of this movie was to lay the groundwork for Part II, when the steel becomes sentient and rises up against its makers.
Glee was a great show canceled before its time when Fox axed it after finishing the first half of its first season. Too bad we'll never know what happened at regionals.
Are the stairs leading to the bathroom still a death trap? I haven't been there in ages.
Limited Release
So Atlas Shrugged only received a limited release. Where were some of the places it was screened? Often, when people think of limited release, the film is released in "artsy" (and liberal) cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco. Now I'm not saying that this is always the case…
Hopefully, this failure will make for an interesting Commentary Tracks of the Damned.
Definitely the lame stream media. The critics were being altruistic by warning people not to see a poorly made movie. If they had just been selfish and accepted money to give it a good review, everyone in the country, except the goddamned socialists, would have gone to see it!
I feel I should say that I don't like Rand and love The Incredibles (if that wasn't effectively conveyed in my opening post). I was playing devil's advocate, explaining why some people claim that there are Randian ideas in The Incredibles, and that some of the things claimed to be Randian are things I agree with in…
The idea that we should raise up the supermen. I think that may be the ONLY aspect of the film that could be seen as Randian; at one point, Mr. Incredible complains about rewarding mediocrity when there are people who are truly special who cannot express their talents.
My thoughts on The Incredibles is that it may have some ideas that cross over with Rand, such as rewarding actual success rather than mediocrity. But the fact that it ends with Mr. Incredible realizing that he needs to work with people, rather than by himself, goes against Randian ideas.
Although, there is also the thing about To Kill A Mockingbird being the liberal equivalent of Atlas Shrugged. Good to know equal protection under the law is a liberal construct.
It's A Metaphor For A Crap Movie
Rotten Tomatoes has 16 reviews so far, and only one of them is "positive." The other 15 complain mostly about its quality as a film (poor acting, poor writing, poor pacing) and try to avoid its politics, while a few do give opinions on its message (whether or not this movie can be…
Seeing as how my post is the only one that I can think of which vigorously defends The First (don't have time to reread this entire section), I will clarify that I don't think The First is the best Big Bad. Not by a long-shot. I merely said that I don't understand why people don't find it menacing, and talked up the…
Agreed, PandaTron
Dowd, how does the title Conversations with Dead People give away the twist? We knew that everyone was dead; vampires (Spike and Webster) are dead and we saw Cassie and Joyce die. If we didn't know the title, we would still know that each character was conversing with someone who was dead.
I guess this debate will actually happen when we get to (the amazing) A Hole in the World, but I can't see any competition between the two. Astronauts are intelligent and are in excellent physical condition. No contest.
I don't understand the arguments about how The First isn't menacing. It is one of the most psychologically damaging villains on the show. It convinced someone to commit suicide, it got the Scoobies to mistrust Giles, it was able to condition Spike to be a killer (even with a soul), and it seriously messed with…
In the interest of full disclosure, I never watched Buffy when it was on TV; I realized that it was good about two months after it ended. Therefore, by the time I'd seen Season 7, I had heard all the hate and was primed to be disappointed, and I'd seen Firefly, so I was very interested to see Fillion play the type of…
QBF: if Jonathan had been on the Scoobies, Andrew never would have been redeemed. The two of them would not go to Mexico together, and Andrew would not kill Jonathan in service of The First. Andrew would have had to kill someone else (which wouldn't have been as powerful), or someone else would have to have made the…
Seasons 7 and 1 are the weakest (for different reasons), but that doesn't make them bad, per se. SPOILERS
