The CW commissioned original music from the Lumineers for the show. I know this because I was trying to find that song they played over and over and over and over and over in the pilot so I could hear words that weren't "aaAAAaaahhhHHh," but the internet was NOT forthcoming.
I'm giving the supernatural-ish stuff a break from anachronistic shame for now. If they try to pass the heretics in the woods off as historical fact instead of campy spooky fun, we'll have words.
I will accept no apologies for being pedantic in the "Reign" comment section. Will fix!
Thank you. Period.
I had so much in this review I could barely get to it, but I am truly fascinated by the CW gambling on this kind of a project. Yes, they've added some supernatural flair and a love triangle, but it's an intensive period piece and that does represent a significant leap for the network. We'll see how many people…
Agree with Garrison - it's a hook. I'm not saying there are legions of salivating Queen of Scots fanatics (I'm personally a Henry VIII's six wives kind of girl), but it is a quick way to lend some credibility before they blank slate it. I'm thinking they would've needed to work much harder to get people interested in…
I think they have to be the four Marys, but since the rule of TV writing is to avoid characters with names starting with the same LETTER, I can't imagine they considered keeping that accurate for long.
Yes, there's definitely still enough to get the idea. I just think it's lame that that's where they made the cut after purporting to be this new "edgy" period drama. I also read somewhere that they actually added that shot of Colin's body stump spurting blood, which if it's true, would be a very annoying commentary on…
It's more like I was really curious. A period piece is a huge investment for the CW, and while I haven't watched the pilot yet, the trailer implies some supernatural shenanigans and that could either be hilarious campy fun, or a total trainwreck. Either way, I'm intrigued.

It's really interesting to me, but of course it's not unique. Every reviewer encounters this problem at one point or another. I do feel like there's something interesting in the fact that watching a string of episodes rather than just one is becoming the norm, though, not to mention how that colors our overall…
It's been a pleasure.
So here's my addendum (I wrote all this while writing these last reviews, but since it ended up more personal and off-topic, I figured the comments section would be a more appropriate place to post it):
I SO WANTED this episode to be holding up a mirror to rape culture, but I watched it several times and I just never saw it. Parts of the episode veered that way, but then it swung back around. It was just so muddled that it never quite stuck, nor was is ever particularly interesting.
Douglas mentions "thousands of Spaceology centres" and says he's "not a scientist, but I do have a better understanding of space than any scientist living today."
Right you are! Fixed.
Ohh, of course you're right, it's a bionic ARM not a CAR! Don't know what I was thinking. Will fix ASAP.
Which is, of course, why that moment is so great. We ALL forgot that Moss was on holiday!
Every week I have to pick a screenshot, and every week it's the hardest part of finishing up the reviews.
