For the most part i didn't mind paying out of pocket for things (also Canadian, so healthcare isn't a concern) - i made literally 4 times my old salary freelancing, so money grew on trees for a while.

i've been freelancing quite successfully for 7 years, finally gave it up this month because the screaming of my adorable children is making it impossible to accomplish any work. It'll be nice to have benefits and regular hours, and not have to do accounting anymore.
