I must be getting old
Doesn't seem like a thing to joke about.
Between the sing-talking and bad punk backing tracks periodically breaking into thrashing …
… I feel like Art Brut is what would happen if Cake and Blink 182 formed a Temple of the Dog like collaboration.
Yeah! Bring us someone who speaks our language! Like MTV's Sway! Amirite!?!?!?
I don't wanna say these edgy rap acts inevitably end up selling out, but …
… how long before Tyler the Creator is doing "Are We There Yet 7: The Are We There Yetting?" Or doing ads for Coors Light? Or doing Bat Mitzvahs?
Speakerboxxx/The Love Below is the culmination of hip-hop.
Rap ended with Outkast. No one did it better before. No one has done it better since. Next genre.
And here I am using my own lungs like a sucker.
I edited down your review to the salient part:
"…a syrupy sweet conclusion to a show that was once acidic and acerbic."
Loved this album
Still do, I guess. Hearing it's 10 years old makes me feel ancient.
"Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois went through the exact same thing"
Did they? Did they really? Because I think their experiences may have slightly differed from this situation you're describing.
I had to find this channel when they had UFC undercard fights on it once.
It was no easy task. Kind of an odd pairing, looking at the rest of their programming.
I like the traditional instrumentation, at least. Bit reminiscent of "The Mountain."
Extremely excited by this review
Will grab the album at lunch. T-Bone is so much a more natural fit than Dust Brothers it's unbelievable.
"Feel Alright," and yes I know that will get me dismissed as a Steve Earle n00b since it's his most accessible.
Hope it's true.
And I love "30 Rock." But good, American shows are much more in danger of running too long, rather than not long enough. Case in point: "The Office." I'd rather spend my time wondering "what might have been" than decrying, "It hasn't been good since season X."
I think HDB is has a point here. When I heard them making fun of that poor 16 year old, my first reaction is that Fergie's lyrics are probably worse, and that woman is 45!
Flaubert, you're right. The Nashville stuff I've been uncharacteristically able to co-sign on.
How long have these guys been around?
I remember getting an offer to go to a show when I was a sophomore in high school, like twenty years ago.
I think I disagree
with everything Nabin has ever said about music. Ever.
Chartex is right; nobody ever claimed they were the same dude and the comics often went to laborious lengths of exposition to distinguish them. If that disqualifies HT from consideration for the article than I rescind the nomination.
