What makes it a joke is that you're able to take your specific experience and make it universal.

I knew he reminded me of someone! I love how everybody on that flight seemed to have an improbable and thematically resonant backstory, except for the two leads who are given no backstory at all!

Was that the first line of dialogue he has in the film? Must come a good twenty minutes into the film.
