I know it's really mean to say, but he actively makes me *not* want to have sex, ever. I just…the combination of the face and the personality makes him, like, sex-kryptonite. Like, he would kill it…or me…or something.

Hahaha I didn't even realize that until you pointed it out! Never thought I'd get some of that sweet, sweet synergy (my name is kind of boring)

NO YOU'RE HORRIBLE!!
(I'm so sorry. You're probably very nice. *runs away clutching fifteen year-old poster of Milo Ventimiglia*)

I agree with this - and I'll add that I hope the original writer and 'characters' (Zola et al) have their voices heard in this process. If this has to be done, and it has to be done with JF, I really hope he just facilitates a creative re-telling of their reality, rather than manipulating it for his own (personal or

My friend sent me a video yesterday featuring a very passionate young man referring to White people as "non-melinated mutants." But given the X-Men implications of the expression, I'm not sure where that falls on the insult-compliment continuum…

See, that just pisses me off. It is their democratic AND legal right to vote - they should be made fully aware of that right and given the opportunity to exercise it. The American political system just makes me so, so sad.

Forgive the ignorance of a non-American, but don't employers legally have to give you the time off to vote, with pay?

Ugh, this is so bang on. I hate, hate, HATE when comedians make this kind of excuse. I mean, I agree with a poster above who called the joke more 'absurdist' than 'racist', but the whole "if you don't like it/get it, too bad for you" is just cowardly and cheap. You're making jokes about/using someone else's culture -

So, I have a question: what is the best way to support an artist financially in terms of purchasing their music? I listen to Songza sometimes, and when I hear a song I like, I go out and buy it on iTunes instead of illegally downloading it - but now I'm seeing that the artists don't actually get a lot of money from

Noooooooo! No take-backs!

While I agree with your points about Miley's appropriation, I think there are still some areas where you're not quite getting my point. But that's okay. These are big and life-long issues - I believe that if you approach these issues with others with gentleness and humility (and you've handled yourself respectably

Really? Just…okay, sure.

It being the case that you're in earnest (and thank you for that), I'll say this:

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Subsaharan (though I dig Simpsons quotes as much as the next chick!). Overwhelmingly, the AVClub commentariat is pretty good about these kinds of things - it's partly why I felt comfortable posting what I did here. :)

Johnny -
I have no desire to start a war in the comments section, but you sound like you aren't very knowledgeable about racial history and race relations. There's no shame in that, if it's not something you've personally had to think about very deeply (unlike me, for example, who has had 31 years to think about it).

You know, a lot of people are responding (quite understandably) with: "who cares?" And yes, 'twitter wars' are stupid. Ordinarily, I'd agree, but Miley really, really pushed a hot button for me when she admonished Nicki about 'not being nice', and criticized her for 'making it a race thing'.

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey!

I meant to add: I don't mean this in a snarky way, at all - not trying to 'flame' you or anything (is that the right word? I'm bad at internetting), just introducing a different perspective on things. If it felt like an attack, allow me to go all Canadian on you: sorree! :)

Honestly - and I totally understand I might get flack for this - I'm really torn on how to feel about this woman. On the one hand, she knew about his past behaviour and still continued to support him - and procreate with him! - in the face of it.

See, for me, I'm baffled at the amount of sympathy being poured out for a large conglomerate that is becoming obscenely wealthy by exploiting people's base natures. I'm baffled by how people can feel so invaded by hackers, and not by the data-tracking and surveillance that private entities unleash on private citizens
