I am an unabashed Lanegan fan.  I think some of his solo output is even better than anything the Trees released.  Then you have his numerous great collaborations with Isobel Campbell, the Soulsavers, the Twilight Singers, and his stint in QOTSA, and even the Gutter Twins.  The man's trackrecord is phenomenal.

Everyone is talking about the greatness of Mudhoney and the Melvins—and rightfully so—but I feel someone needs to acknowledge how awesome the Screaming Trees were.  So I guess I'll do it.

I would say there are definitely more bands popping up now that are heavily influenced by the grunge sound.  And by that I mean the Mudhoney/Screaming Trees/early Soundgarden version of grunge, and not the Pearl Jam version that spawned the likes of Nickleback.

I never got to see the original version of Closer performed live; instead I only got to see the new version with the "The Only Time" breakdown near the end where the old coda used to be.  Not nearly as good as the original cd version, or the live version captured on And All That Could Have Been.

You are correct, and here's a recent article about it:

Didn't post last week, so this will cover the last two weeks.  My head isn't with it this Monday morning, so I won't be getting into detail with any of this.

Finished reading Farewell My Lovely and I have a few pages left in Michael Azerrad's Come As You Are (just in time for 1992 week, go me!).  I guess that means it is time to go back to Tropic of Cancer once again.  We'll see how far I get without needing another break this time.

1991.

1991.

Went back to Tropic of Cancer and read about 40 more pages.  Decided to stop and take a break again.  I'll get back to it.

Yeah, I asked Marah Eakin about it on Twitter after it didn't show up last week.  She said they didn't review it because no freelancer pitched the idea, but it might show up at a later date.
