Very well put. I wasn't alive when any of these albums came out (but those big 3 are the only ones I listen to regularly), so I always assumed he just ended up taking the easy way out and made conventional pop albums instead of taking risks that always ended with critical panning.

I always cite "Monkberry Moon Delight" as the McCartney track that shows he was not only as experimental as John, he had the focus to pull it off with better results.
