I was not the biggest fan of The Suburbs, but I think it's a damn sight better than Reflektor, which is…spotty at best. But my favorite Arcade Fire record is Neon Bible, so what do I know?

There are plenty of double albums that work. But I really do think most of them tend to be overstuffed and indulgent. Reflektor is definitely one of those examples.

Yup. Like most double albums, it didn't need to be a double album. Some judicious editing would've made for a much better record.

This is where I tell the story of how my high school marching band played at a parade and rally for then-President George Bush, and the In the Line of Fire crew was there filming second unit stuff and people from the band can be seen in the movie. Wow, fame!

I will also throw in Tabor's even better follow-up book, Blind Descent, which follows American and Russian caving teams in Mexico and Georgia, respectively, trying to find the deepest cave on the planet.

It amazes me that Alex Gibney keeps making boring films out of compelling topics and critics go nuts for him every time.

I know I'm a month late to this, but I'm gonna throw out Forever on the Mountain by James M. Tabor. It's about a 1969 climb of Denali that went horribly wrong. The fact that the events happened in 1969 makes it all the more harrowing and compelling because of the equipment they had on hand.

Thank you for that recommendation. I am now going to seek out this film.

This probably won't be great, but it's been a month since I've seen a movie in the theater, so I may get out of the house this weekend and see it. Would Everest or Black Mass be a better choice? Maybe, but will they be as entertaining as this? Maybe not.

Mike Doughty's take on that tour, and Art, from his memoir:

The mythology aspect is intriguing to me, but mostly in a "what the hell is happening to the reservoir?" kind of way. I'm not so interested in the mechanics of what is bringing the dead back to life and who gets chosen and things.

So far I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not I'll stick with this long term. I mean, there's a lot of Colbert goodness in the show so far, but there are other things I'm not loving. And going from 2 hours a week to 5 hours is a big time commitment, especially as the tv season kicks in, and especially if he

Oh, man. I would love it if we got more awkward trainwreck musician interviews from Colbert. It got so ludicrously bad on the Report that I was impressed when a band could actually answer his questions without embarrassing themselves.

THROW IT BACK! Horse the Band, everybody.

Yep. The fact that Kelly wrote the screenplay is a big positive. Let's hope it doesn't get rewritten all to hell between now and filming. Tasha Robinson wanted it to be animated, but it could be cool in live action.

The first half of the original movie was pretty good…
Also, Victor Salva is a convicted sex offender.

I will always have affection for Brian Williams due to his many hilarious interviews on The Daily Show, almost all of which occurred before he took over the Nightly News anchor desk.

Troll Hunter was amazing for its budget and it was really, really entertaining. So I am definitely up for whatever this thing is. Although this Jane Doe movie I'm not so sure about.

I'm disappointed by this news but not surprised since TBS moved season 3 out of its plum "airing right after our Big Bang Theory reruns" time slot and onto Friday nights.

Agreed.
