There was a point in the early 80s or maybe late 70s that Fender got all new machinery and sent all their old stuff to their Japan factory. So this is why the quality of those is so coveted. an 80s Strat may have been made on the same machinery a 1957 strat was, so they would be more authentic to the old ones.
