Both the movies and the books are incredibly overrated. I still like them and think they're "good", but any praise beyond that is just…wrong.

People are always willing to ignore racism in art when that art is close to their hearts. I've been rewatching the LOTR movies for the past few days, and as technically groundbreaking as they are, they're undeniably racist and sexist.
