That's fair. It can and does cross the line from "common sense" to "wimminfolk" pretty easily. The idea that you couldn't punch a woman when she's poisoning the water supply (how dumb) is way for on the bad side of that line.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is to some extent, but also, men have about 30% more muscle mass than women on average, so most men could probably hurt a woman a lot worse by hitting her than most women could a man.

Not sure about the Lee movie, but I used to listen to the radio show while Kato was certainly competent, he wasn't the hero.

I'm basically onboard with that. There's some really good YA although I tend to think the stuff that's a little less genre bound is better.

His writing isn't very good, per se, but his floridity (is that a word?) sometimes does conjure up a really creepy vibe. I don't enjoy reading Lovecraft very much but he has his moments.
