The bad era is Will Ferrell thru Robert California (the skeevier direction he took the show didn't work for me at all). But the last season righted the ship and the Carrell years are all extremely good, esp. 2 and 5.

I never saw this show, but they should have just taken Please Kill Me and dramatized it as is.
