They announced the release of a remastered version of Vapor Trails today. The band has never been happy with the mastering either. Curious how much of an improvement it will be.

Lifeson is a quasi-translation of his real last name of Živoijnović. (His first name is Aleksandar.)

@DesertDweller79:disqus ST:V has one of DeForest Kelley's best acting moments as McCoy. Other than that it's pretty much a wasteland. I'd only recommend watching it with commentary and subtitles on to catch what's being said onscreen. The BluRay has your choice of Shatner and his daughter (who was his PA on the film,

He's got a beard. (He hates shaving, remember from the interview?) Not much on the top of the head though anymore.

@avclub-011d0b4fe6835bb3d37ef4e0ea713de6:disqus I don't know where you gave up, but my wife and I have been going through Voyager *very slowly*. The first three seasons suck hardcore, but it surprisingly gets better in S4 when Jeri Ryan joins as Seven of Nine. They basically brought her on for T&A purposes, but it

@avclub-ab60729bcbd8293eb5f31e5077c29049:disqus Yes. Avoid Nemesis. Insurrection was just boring. Nemesis is actively, hatefully awful.
On that note, Amazon has the TNG movie boxed set on sale for $20 as one of their daily deals today, so I ordered it. I'll probably just watch them with commentary. Ron Moore and Ira

What's amazing is that almost all the other produced episodes from Melinda Snodgrass are *terrible*. Up The Long Ladder (aka "the space Irish one") is just appallingly bad and  The High Ground I had never even seen until I bought the S3 BluRays because it's almost never sold in syndication packages. She claims studio

The fun thing with that is you couldn't spoil Part 2. Michael Piller wrote part 1 all by himself (most were written semi-collaboratively, but one to three people were the assigned and credited writers) and he left them in a hard to get out of situation because he was planning on quitting and thought it would be funny.

@avclub-0ae7484a9f3bbd2a21df420050c032ae:disqus Part of the problem was the for the first two seasons most of the production staff was the same as TOS, because Roddenberry brought most of his old crew along. D.C. Fontana wrote a bunch of episodes, David Gerold developed the TNG mythology, and Roddenberry messed with

Ann Druyan (Carl Sagan's widow and one of the producers on the original Cosmos) is also producer on the new one. I think Sagan's vision will be adequately represented.

When we went to the doctor to get the confirming test after the home test (that went straight in the bin, by the way) they asked us if we wanted to keep it, and we were like "Uh……… No? Is that a thing?" So, apparently you aren't the only one by far, but my wife and I are not in that set.

Pete Best was fired for having shaky time keeping. I don't think he fits the pattern. Bill Berry had an aneurysm, and like Bun, Topper ended up with major back problems that make it hard to drum. I had to look up Chris Mars, but it sounds like he just got fed up with Paul Westerberg and likes painting better than

5 string (add a low B or sometimes high C) and 6 string (add a low B and high C) basses are dead common. 8 or 12 string (4 or 6 courses of 2 strings, similar to a 12 string guitar but an octave (8 string) or an octave and a fourth lower (12 string)) aren't that unheard of even. Certainly rarer than 4, 5, or 6 string

It needs to stop telling me that too. But mostly because they've not updated their classic Doctor Who offerings ever.

@avclub-bc011d00bcc91da3b8b3cb43ca0bcd73:disqus Nirvana were on tour with Sonic Youth (headlining), Dinosaur Jr, Babes in Toyland, Mudhoney, The Ramones, and a few others in summer '91 just before Nevermind came out.

@avclub-87caf7c42aedbada42572e2374eed08d:disqus But NIN was popular (not mainstream popular, but alternative radio popular) before Nirvana. Pretty Hate Machine (and the singles "Down In It", "Head Like A Hole", and "Sin")  came out in '89-'90.  They were in the Lollapalooza '91 lineup, which was just before Nirvana

Meanwhile, Hemlock Grove sits alone and ignored in the corner crying to itself. (Rightfully so, from what I hear.)

Erie County, PA clearly only exists so PA could have Great Lakes access too. NY should've grabbed Erie just to annoy them even more after they lost Delaware.

Yeah. Rush is very open about their setup. Geddy and Alex both use racks of amp and cabinet simulators that plug straight into front of house. (I think Alex might even have a signature model?) Rather than go with the fake amps like a lot of bands, they decided to put whimsical stuff like vending machines, dryers, etc
