The consensus and Zack's statements to date say no. I kinda hope he changes his mind. I like the Thursday ST discussions and would love to carry it on as long as possible. For Voyager and Enterprise though, I imagine he'd have to do at least 3 episodes but write shorter overall writeups, because there's not much to…
They do address it later. He stays low on the priorities list and neither Rom (who was the one fixing them before as an employee) nor Nog (who was fixing them after he joined Starfleet as O'Brien's assistant) does any side work for him. In "Valiant", Quark's replicators were broken and he's having to mix drinks by…
@Croig:disqus By the time of TOS at least, the Vulcans were using Constitution class ships, at least for some purposes. In "The Immunity Syndrome", the Intrepid (manned by a 400 Vulcan crew) was destroyed by a giant space amoeba.
@avclub-1e850f6bef0bc36ca1f64e95ff1cbd2e:disqus There was a pilot for one, mostly a copy of the first episode of the original. No one told Graham Lineham until after it was complete. They kept Ayoade as Moss, but had Joel McHale as Roy and Jessica St. Claire as Jenn. It…. did not work.
How many people were in the audience at the end of Brain Candy? I didn't see it until it was out on video, but two of my friends saw it in the theater. They said there were five people at the start (including them), and three walked out during the first bit with Cancer Boy. My friends, of course, loved it. We rented…
I'm so late on this that no one will ever read it, but…. Netflix isn't that likely to have their servers crash because they don't really have their own servers. Amazon has a gigantic, geographically distributed network of servers and storage called AWS, and anyone can buy server time and space. You can even create…
They directed movies first, true. I was talking about the domain of TV directing. But they also had a lot more reputation and power than the TNG actors at that point. Nimoy made directing a precondition of appearing in ST:III. If Paramount wanted that sweet movie franchise money coming in, they pretty much had to…
Frakes was the first one to get to direct and he did work like a slave to get it. They made him apprentice under directors and in the editing room forever, hoping he'd realize it was hard and just give up and go back to acting. But he stuck with it, giving up a lot of down time the other cast members got, and…
I think you're right. All of the TOS and TNG BluRays say they're from CBS Digital. Also pretty sure Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu have pretty long term contracts for streaming all the Star Treks, with at least Amazon getting the HD versions after the BluRays come out.
@avclub-eb058ced22520c3a8f4e4a6e2fb16403:disqus @avclub-0ae7484a9f3bbd2a21df420050c032ae:disqus Reading Rainbow was cancelled a few years ago, but LeVar Burton has resurrected it as an iPad/Android tablet app with (paid) downloadable episodes.
@avclub-0f2aab038be93ff407d92af691001e73:disqus That would be tough. Michael Pillar (TNG S3 showrunner and writer of both the DS9 and VOY pilots) wrote both solo (most episodes were at least somewhat collaborative), and he's been dead for a few years. He wrote BOBW part I on what he thought was his way out, because…
They both really hate Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce though.
Sorry for just making a nitpicky correction, by the Ziggy Stardust era drummer's name is Mick "Woody" Woodmansey, not Mick "Woody" Woodsbury.
Cable doesn't have to mean HBO. Just any cable network. They have significantly lower ratings expectations, and will often invest in loss leaders like Mad Men (or a potential Star Trek) that will give them some cultural cachet and get people to check the network out at all.
I feel like the problem with Kes was the writing and lack of anything to, not Jennifer Lien. I was starting to think she could do something with the character at the end of S3, right before they wrote her out. The producers even thought Garrett Wang was the worst, and were planning to write him out until he appeared…
The Doctor and Seven are the best Voyager characters, but largely because of the actors. Picardo almost always manages to sell whatever they give him, unlike Garrett Wang (for example), who couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag with a hole cut in it. I'm shocked at how much I'm liking Seven as my wife and I give…
@avclub-81e42ebe6b44656990ff91adfd49b5f7:disqus Shatner didn't "used to to show horses". That's one of the main things he does with his life. (You got the breed right though.) He's one of the organizers of the Hollywood Charity Horse Show. I think he met his current wife through show horse stuff. And watch the last…
Hell yes. I watch ST:II:TWOK at least twice a year. Usually it turns into watching II, III, and IV, but I'm up for watching TWOK any time. I remember staying up past my bedtime watching it on a ~9" B&W portable TV (with a tuning dial, so not only did you have to adjust the antenna, you had to actually find the…
@avclub-96f15daceb6669363fbf7f762ed57703:disqus Both are songs where Paul played lead guitar as well. Some do claim, however, that the bass on Helter Skelter is (rather drunk) John, primarily because it's uncharacteristically sloppy for Paul, and because Paul was playing lead guitar and the song was mostly done as…
