I was surprised at how sad I was about Jered's murder. They hadn't done much to characterize him — other than that one cute scene from an ending montage where he and one of the girls at the NeedWant were dancing while cleaning up. But between that and the shot around his trailer before he was discovered dead (painting

I think the artfulness of that exchange was that Peggy asks about Joan's baby, Joan refers to her son Kevin as "the man in her life," and then asks "and how's yours?" She means "the man in your life," and that's how Peggy answers it, but everyone watching in the audience is reminded inexorably of Peggy's pregnancy.

Definitely the baby thing.
