I enjoy True Blood, but nuance is not it's specialty.  If a supporting character does not have a supernatural background/ability, the writers will have that character take an extreme position or action of some kind to justify his/her existence on the show.

It would be great to see some Pam-Tara bonding over chowing down on Lettie Mae.

Hoyt's character direction makes total sense.  He's already tried being a regular guy when he dated Summer and it didn't work for him.  Post-Jessica it was either going to be sad/pathetic/fangbanger or violent extremist, and it looks like the writers decided to give us both.

Aw, jeez - I hope not!

Count me in on disappointed with Meloni's arc.  I was hoping we were going to see some of the flashes that made his run on "Oz" as Chris Keller scary and volatile with a diabolical sexuality.  Roman as a character just didn't do it for me.  In terms of "Authority" figures I found Zeljko Ivanek far more

In all the True Blood episodes I've seen, tonight's sequence in the asylum had the first legitimately creepy/suspenseful sequence I can remember.  It had a sort-of "Salem's Lot" thing going on.

I cringed when Hoyt reached for Tara's cigarette and not-so-subtlely showed off his neck.  Poor, pathetic fella.

One thing this new version of Dallas is missing is a Charlene Tilton/Lucy Ewing character: a bratty, entitled member of the family with too much time and money on her hands out to get a tan by the pool choose bad romantic partners.  i.e. some campy, soapy fun amid the alternative energy chats and AA skullduggery .

As much as I love Hoyt, with him broken off from Jessica and Jason, and no longer the lovable Gee-Whiz Hoyt of yore, they need to do something radical to character to justify  his existence on this overstuffed cast.  I'd suggest either taking the goth-eyeliner thing to its logical conclusion and turning him into a

I'm hopeful this may reinvigorate the character too.  Given how hard Tara had to fight to keep from Franklin turning her into a vampire, Sookie & Lafayette making her into a vampire without her consent should create some interesting new alliances/grudges.

A HUGE improvement with TB so far this year is that the show seems to have shifted its allegiance from "Everyone thinks Sookie is crazy, but there are rational, supernatural reasons for her misunderstood behavior" to "Sookie makes awful decisions without thinking about the consequences of her actions".   Besides
