"I don't mean to suggest that the Fourth Doctor had turned suicidal."
Suicidal is, indeed, too strong a word.  Still, in those last few moments of the Fourth Doctor's life, it's difficult not to notice that he does find a relatively safe perch on the aerial, and his losing his grip looks more like just simply letting

"…hanging like a cloud over the whole season in much the same way David Tennant’s long-foretold regeneration colored the Tenth Doctor's last few shows in bright shades of maudlin."

In general, I find season 18 okay and essentially entertaining… definitely a brand, new take on the series.  However, one thing that bothered me about the season is it just seems like there's way too many serials with just bearded men talking.

Yep.  John was expecting, but Letts is on record saying that he wanted to change the companion nonetheless.  He felt that having two scientists didn't work because you'd have two people talking about things that the audience wouldn't get, but sci-fi fans would.  Little did he know that they explained the made-up

Oh, yes.  Excellent model work.

There are three main things that bother me about the era.

I generally find season 18 okay.  (Well, "Hive" and "Meglos" are awful, but the rest are… um… okay.)

I think we've sufficiently beaten this horse…

For years I only had the VHS release where only certain parts were colorized.  It would fade in and out of color based on the off-screen recordings they had.  And I always preferred it when it was in B/W… it was just so much more creepy, especially with that wonderfully enigmatic music.

And don't forget that "Spearhead" had that zooming in thing.

Oh absolutely.  Real Dr. Who for me is seasons 1-21, but I begrudgingly accept that 22-26 also… um… exist.

Oh yes.  I have his book, too.

I seem to remember a cool shot where they film the astronaut sort of from below with the sun almost directly behind him.

Blue… no! Aaaaaaaah!

Totally agree.  The middle bit of Master Plan is a bit strange, but all the same.  Hartnell was just so good in that one.  And the stakes were so high.  The Doctor won but at some serious costs.

Victory of the Daleks… blotted from my mind.

I am your… serrrrVANT.

I think it'd be cool if we would add some of the missing Troughton serials.  I just recently listened to Power of the Daleks, and I always just get blown away by how good it is even with only the telesnaps.

I think of all the screen shots for this column, "Ambassadors" takes the cake!

It is quite good.  In fact, if there was no "Inferno" in season 7, I don't know which one I'd choose as the best of the season.
