Really?  I actually prefer Peter Pratt.  So much more ominous and calculating.  I also prefer Pratt's appearance too over Beevers.  Pratt was this sort of dry husk, whereas Beevers became this moist towelette or something.

I guess I'd count "Rose" and "Unquiet Dead" now, after listening to you all.  Those two are pretty good, actually.  Still, I definitely agree with Prole Hole about "Father's Day" and "Parting of the Ways."  And there is something to like in "End of the World," but I can't put my finger on it either.

I've not read many (read: none at all) of the novels, but when I found out about that loom stuff, I thought, "Hm… not missing out on much, then."

She did indeed, with K9 Mark I, too.

This also reminds me of how to pronounce Z-Cars.  (It's "zed," by the way.)

Yeah… Susan is very problematic considering that we now know that—if she is a Time Lord—the Doctor abandons her with a man who will live for only a fraction of the time Susan will live.  Granted, this possibility wasn't around at the time, but in retrospect it makes the Doctor really quite an awful grandfather.

All of those you mentioned belong in the good-actors-to-make-a-parody-of-the-Doctor category, rather than serious contenders for the actual role, as you say.  We would watch them going, "Oh look!  Stephen Fry as the Doctor!" Not, "What a wonderful Doctor Stephen Fry is!"

I think that the series suggests more that all Time Lords are Gallifreyans but not all Gallifreyans are Time Lords.  It's never really explicitly stated, though, as we've only "Invasion of Time" to really base this off of and "Last of the Time Lords."

Oh, absolutely.  Especially now that we've had time away from the Davies series to look back at that first year with more objectivity.  The only one I see worth watching anymore is "Empty Child/Doctor Dances."

Let's have an interminable chase scene with every ridiculous vehicle possible just because.
