I found the twofer CD in NZ back in the early 90s for a tenner. I found it again in Europe a few years back for about the same. It is listed as Stax 1992 - remastered 1990, and also has a Universal and Ardent imprint on it. I also got the first two lps on reissued heavy guage vinyl about 10 years ago from Italy of

I had the same issue with this. I always find the American use of "New Wave" odd, it seems to cover everything from PiL and Two Tone ska to mainstream fare like Duran Duran and Culture Club. I guess it has alot to do with how MTV covered alternative music in the period. To me,1978 to about 1984 is really a post-punk

There's nothing wrong with the PtMM version of Can't Hardly Wait -it's one of their best tracks - until you hear the Tim version. The jettisoning of the over production, and the replacement(!) of the horns in favour of that squiggly, nagging guitar riff makes it just better. It can't be unheard..

That is a great list. Also missing: John Huston and Walter Hill…

Its pacing is very slow by today's standards, but the episode with the ghost soldier is truly scary …and this was a show aimed at teenagers/kids.

BabyBird, "You're Gorgeous."

It's on Channel 4 in the UK, and both series are available on the 4OD catch up service which is available to UK and Ireland, or, you know, by vpn proxy bluffer means.

This. When Don mentioned how alone she was here "away from people" in the hills of the canyon, and her being a minor tv star…well,
the whole thing just screams Sharon Tate fate time.

Minor tv actress Megan's quiet, lonely house in the hills just screams Sharon Tate fate.

John Cooper Clarke - Evidently Chickentown.

Its infernal loop of stupidity is like a version of Waiting for Godot - for, you know, kids.

Some songs released in 1983 that didn't suck:
Confusion, New Order.
This Charming Man, the Smiths.
The Cutter, Echo and the Bunnymen.
Cattle and Cane, the Go-Betweens.
Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream), the Icicle Works.

Clemens and Carey Mulligan are both in the Great Gatsby…if they share the screen at the same time, perhaps the world will implode, or something
