Yes, Columbo is massive over here, very much a mainstream hit and still repeated on ITV (our second most watched channel still I think, maybe even most watched) weekly.

Lovejoy was brilliant. A morally dubious antiques dealer cum detective. At the end of every week, without fail, McShane would have a large roll of £20 notes that he was gonna spend on a new car or a place in the retirement home for Tinker and then into the pub would walk a guy who he owed that exact amount, save for a

There was one where his new neice-in-law(??) gets kidnapped and one where he goes undercover. Last Salute to the Commodore is different, you dont see the murder and he doesn't follow just one person around, he also has a team around him. It's a pretty bad episode. And I avoid watching the one where they pretend Mrs

Shatner's pencil thin moustache in the latter episode is magnificent. I love the earlier one actually, where he plays an actor who is famous for portraying Detective Lucerne and starts seeming to have a mental breakdown where he thinks he actually is Lucerne and Columbo just plays right along!

I love, love, love Columbo! For the same reason as TVDW as I had to sit through it with my Mum throughout my childhood. I still watch it whenever it's repeated, which is A LOT, half from nostalgia and half, well because it's just great. This episode isn't, as has been pointed out, first-rate Columbo but it kicks the

Still not up to the level of the Specials or Series 3 but S4 gets a free pass for that Star Wars description, that was fucking sublime!!

The whole of Season 3 is immense! At that stage I was worried that it was gonna have waned but it turned out to be amazing, and that's even without Jamie! This series will get a free pass from me if he returns.

The good news is the Guardian reviewer was also very disappointed with this episode…and he says next week is much better!

Like I say it's still all gold, but to me Series 2 was Peep Show at its very best, Jeremy Makes It and University Challenge are the two most perfect episodes they ever made and then Series 4 got pretty close again. Since then it's been the odd quality episode but nothing approaching the heights of these episodes.

Yeah the Lib Dems were pretty crap weren't they? The Glee reference was horribly grating and Fergus' Musicals rant at Terri was embarrassingly bad.

It's still great obviously, but it's definitely been going downhill since the end of the 4th series, with the exception of the excellent Dobie Club episode!
