But Game of Thrones definitely does have a point to make with its violence. It says that stories about knights and heroes and princesses would be a lot more messy if they reflected their setting realistically. The most effective way to communicate that is through the shock value of its violence and sex.

I watched it and have no complaints that it failed to deliver on "so bad it's good". Even the bland middle section was entertainingly stupid. There was no part of the episode where I wasn't going "What…?" with a stupid grin on my face.

Maybe it's an exchange rate joke that got lost as the US dollar weakened?
