Definitely the Hobbit for me.  We were assigned the book in 8th grade, and were supposed to read a chapter or two a night to be quizzed on.  I was so enthralled that I ended up reading the entire book twice before the class finished it as scheduled.   I actually corrected the teacher on the final test over the book.
