"There’s new character types from octopi to pufferfish to flounders … "

As "penis" derives from a third declension masculine i-stem noun, the Latinate plural would be "penes".

"After Girl, the next lesbian kiss to air on British TV did not happen until 1994, when Anna Friel and Nicola Stephenson kissed on the soap Brookside."

Good points both!

Last week's episode played like an homage to the Troughton era (Ice Warriors, the 'base under siege' storyline), whereas this one had a very strong Pertwee flavor: the setting (Earth, 1974), the great gobs of action, the pocket universe (a touch of "Inferno", perhaps?) and the return of the blue crystal from Metebelis

I suspect the latter.

I suspect the latter.

"You really hammered that bung hole!"

"You really hammered that bung hole!"

SUPERB.

"I left my 'Puttin' on the Ritz' cane here earlier. I know it probably has another name…Can I be perfectly honest with you guys? I think I went too far with this one. I have to go…to the bank today! What am I supposed to tell people in line? 'I had good news and bad news'? Come on, Craig. Get your life together."

Fantastic review! Now off to my TARDIS…

Good Lord, Wikipedia has an entry on everything:

U.N.I.T.
Anyone else think it odd that no one in the White House is aware of the Doctor at the start of this two-parter? Wouldn't the White House have contacts with U.N.I.T., which had been working with the Doctor from at least 1968 ("The Invasion")?
