Camel Toe
You should pre-screen your interviews with us. You should have asked him about the camel joke that went very wrong in Wisconsin. John Oliver came off looking like a bit of a humorless victim of a 60Minutes expose, grabbing a camera and telling a guy to stop filming. I would have liked to hear his take on

Just started reading them and have them bookmarked— thanks!

Tecumseh could not be more wrong. The original Layla was a quintessential boomer song; the re-make was meant for the MTV Unplugged generation. We're all lookin' at you, Tecumseh.

Just watching the clip, maybe EC should have asked Carl Perkins to join Derek and the Dominoes.

I would put Layla into my all-time 5 best rock albums of all time. If I were stuck on the proverbial desert island, I would definitely want to have this with me. Way more than that asshat, Wilson.

A quick follow-up for lexicondevil: are you on some kind of new medication?

Thanks, CJC!

This was a thoughtful and enjoyable scifi movie from a time when most of them were complete garbage. The plot was interesting, the special effects were terrific (for the time) and the movie holds up pretty well. I absolutely loved it as a kid, and enjoyed watching it again as an adult, and not just in a washed-up

Damn you, vandermonde— you took my line, you magnificent bastard.

To go back one more generation, Wally George surfed the crazy wave generated by George Putnam. Putnam was the prototype for Fox news personalities (personality being loosely defined).

Amber Tamblyn looks like she is gaining about ten pounds a week. That said, I like her a lot.

Surprise Ending
What saves this movie from being just another boring, pretentious Euro gabfest is that at the halfway mark (SPOILER) Shimell and Binoche turn out to be Fiat-based Transformers, and they spend the second half of the movie fighting each other and trashing half of Tuscany in the process.

Pauline Kael said that she retired because she couldn't stand the thought of sitting through another Oliver Stone movie.

Yet another good review
Agreed about Leonard being kind of appealing again for the first time in a long time.

Lost in Space
As a kid, I loved this aspect of Lost in Space. Each show had a stinger at the end (where stingers usually are) that gave each show a cliffhanger ending leading into next week's show. I looked forward to the cliffhanger at least as much as the show itself.

Is This The Sequel to Groundhog Day?
Don't drive angry. Don't drive angry.

Early Checkout
I have not heard a single song on this list. My guess is that I haven't missed much.

Neo-Noir
I would include at least three neo-noir classics that update the genre pretty well:

Phair gets a lot of deserved grief, but it looks to me like you went out of your way to trash her mostly because she criticized Chicago once upon a time.

Michele Bachmann was ignoring an exploding car off to her left while responding to Obama's State of the Union address.
