Sometimes she seems a little like droids in the Star Wars universe - transmitting signals and messages, technical know-how, that sort of thing. Maybe she's considered defective because she's become less of an automaton?

Sure, but that's just one gem that's effectively a god on one type of planet. Get a type with power over fire, one with power of rock, and so on, you've got a pretty efficient invasion force.

Oh, I forgot that one. Seems just as appropriate.

Wait, "Works at magazine" isn't #1 anymore? I gotta start reading the trades again.

Tig deserves it, but Jesus, the Cameron Esposito love…

Autocorrect is chanting "Do it … DOO it!!" at you.

I have no idea. If said interstellar empire's members are practically immortal and nigh-invulnerable though, then … possibly? This wasn't something I'd originally considered, but look at a gem like Lapis - how many of those would it take to bring a planet to its knees?

I was just saying this show needs more mutant penguins wandering around.

I think it's reasonable to assume that the wording of "a defective Pearl," coming from the character it did and in the episode it did, was very intentional.

Maybe not evil, but I get you. At one point, they were all on the same side.

Good call - I hadn't even thought of Amber. So maybe there's Anthracites too?

I agree. I posted elsewhere that pearls aren't even a mineraloid (like opals, which aren't silicates either, and which is one of Pearl's fusions). I don't know yet whether there are multiple Pearls or multiple everything.

Theory/Question: Pearl is the only gem that's been talked about in the plural. We don't have enough information yet to know if all gems are plural or if Pearls are special, but it makes me wonder because among all the stones we've seen so far (amethyst, jasper, garnet…), pearls are the only ones that aren't mineral

I dunno, I think she'd have just appreciated the accuracy. The Gems' bodies are just forms to them anyway, and Pearl is more practical than most. You can hurt her, but you can't insult her.

You usually see it on articles about plus-sized women: "I'm not sexist, I'm just don't think we should be glorifying unhealthy bodies." Makes it sound like a person you can have a dialogue with, but you still just end up talking in circles.

You guys are being concern trolled, you know that, right? Just walk away.

His reaction is beautiful. It's not even hate, hearing it just shuts him down. It reminds me of the Human Giant sketch where the Illusionators' card trick shows a guy that magic is real and he just has to sit down in the parking lot and eventually walk into traffic because there's just no way for him to go on in this

Yeah, he's definitely the most interesting person here so far.

Picked this up. Liked it. Jughead is the book's superhero, but there's so many good moments (I was glad you chose to provide the visual sample of Archie and his dad's montage - the book's not going to do a "clueless adults" riff). The checkins with damn near everyone show that it's in the right hands.
