The only reason I'm not 100% behind "Silence of the Lambs" as a Best Picture winner (and I do think it's one of the best winners of my lifetime) is because it beat "Beauty & the Beast," which is an even better movie, left an even bigger cultural legacy, and an animated film's victory could have changed the greater

Since she has the most "normal" life of all the main characters (by societal conventions, at least), Allison's interactions with her "sisters" and the weirder corners of the show's continuing plot are often played with a very sharp (and sometimes very needed) sense of humor. For a lot of people I know, she's been an

Ken's "It's My Job" moment is indeed an instant classic, but just as indelible (for me, at least) was a quieter scene in an early episode of "Orphan Black," where terminally uptight soccer mom Allison starts to worry that this whole clone thing is about to get out of hand. Her husband and kids gone for the day, she

Sigh, yeah.

I love Carol Cleveland so much, it hurts.

Good lord, that outfit.

Fuck you, I'm a Cosima man.

Just as an aside: "Party Down's" Roman laid it bare: "Buffy" was most definitely fantasy.

I really liked the Sam/Gordon scenes. There's a nice level of politeness and honesty in their exchange about b.o., and as someone who grew up with greasy hair and a near-crippling lack of social skills, I got the "it's a blessing" speech more than once.

Ah, one of the all-time great whiplash tonal shifts in the history of sketch comedy.

At least COPS had a robot dog with a built-in siren. That bought it some good will.

Believe me, there are millions of white people in America love that song, and whose entire outlook on different cultures is defined (or at least ideally expressed) by that ride.

Are you thinking of "Generation X?" If so, I highly recommend not tracking it down. Sad to say, the "X-Men" cartoon is better.

@avclub-9024f9f0a80d2d248c7c6efb2e715c37:disqus , I don't know if I'd go that far, but I really enjoyed how they handled Pym's struggles with heroism-vs-pacifism. It was refreshing to see a kids' show present a topic without pretending that there was an easy answer to be learned at the end of the episode.

Good christ, that's even worse than the cooler/picnic gag I made up.

I can dig that. For the early-90s, the serialization was very ambitious. Even as poorly done as it was, that's worth some points.

Yeah, it's not bad. I never really got into it, but I liked how it tried to do something different while still retaining the proper traits of each character.

Two moments early in "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" that really sold me on the show: (paraphrasing both times)

You sir, are a national treasure.
