Good point about radios. One of the guys in the bomb bay says he works in communications. For some reason that made me think radios! But you are correct, they probably don't have radios. Thanks @The_Tuna:disqus  for putting my mind at rest.

I have to disagree with you natty. If Aang had not entered the Avatar state, Aang would have died. He was no match for the fire lord and that was obvious through the entire first half of that fight scene.

My favorite quiet moment in the finale is actually after the fighting is all over and they show the comet set over the ocean before the dissolve forward in time to Zuko's coronation. A lovely image with beautiful music; a quiet moment to catch our breath after the non-stop ass-kicking.

Can anyone else think of a show that is great pretty much start to finish? Avatar is one of the few long form stories that I can think of where the finale isn't a huge disappointment.  In fact I'd say it is one of the best endings I have ever seen. What else is this good?

Is this the nitpicky thread? Cause I have one. It always bugged me that none of the other airships seems to notice that one of the airships is out of formation and no longer in radio contact.

Hayden, thanks for these write-ups. I was always a long-time lurker on this site, but the Avatar reviews made me a commentator, partly because of your insights. Great job!

Regarding the Melon Lord scene, I am never sure whether to find Momo eating the Melon Lord's head disturbing or hilarious. Perhaps disturbingly hilarious?

I believe it was a year. So Aang went at most from 12 to 13. I do like that you basically see Aang grow up in the finale, but you don't get enough time to see him as mature Aang to make up for all the time you spend with him as kid Aang. Honestly if his voice had dropped I might have bought it, but that also would

The first time I watched the finale I was terrified that they might actually kill off Toph and Sokka. Too many Whedon shows I think. I had to keep reminding myself that it was a kid's show and they were most likely not going to kill off any of the main characters in the final battle.

I like to think that the series ends with the Kataang hug rather than kiss. I still can't get over that Aang is still a kid and Kataara seems much, much older than him, even though I know she is only two years older. It just skeeves me out a bit too much.

Skip you are wrong. Wyatt Cenac does not suck. He won me over with his exposé of the Swedish Health Care System — "full release?"— and I have enjoyed him ever since.

Great call on Amadeus, one of my favorite movies. The emphasis on the music as a character in the story also is enhanced in the film version I think. They did everything right turning that into a film.

I consider Pride and Prejudice to be my favorite book, love the BBC version, and actually really like the Wright adaptation.  It's beautifully filmed and keeps to the themes of the book relatively well. Yeah, it isn't exactly Austen's book, but I've already got an awesome film adaptation with the BBC version, so why

Makes me tear-up too and also reminds me of the daemons in the His Dark Materials books. Basically I'm a softy for cute animal/spirit guides who will die with you.

Maybe this is the flip side of the "born to rule" problem that Hayden mentions in his review. The Earth King is part of the hereditary monarchy and he's an idiot, just like Ozai is a homicidal maniac. While you might get a good egg every once in a while, perhaps heredity isn't the best way to choose a leader.

I think that it might be her name. Isn't she called Pam or something, rather than Dolly?

Reading 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" just made me want to read "Pride and Prejudice" again, which I did after only making it about half-way through PPZ.

I agree. He really seemed to love that bear.
