I just rewatched Seven after reading a theory that the entire film is set in Purgatory (and there are definitely clues thrown in to that effect, e.g. references to Dante's Purgatorio).  If that is so, then perhaps the ending really means that the final deadly sin has been purged, and someone is going to Heaven.  Fun…

I believe there is A Theory that the end of the movie is actually all in the protagonist's imagination, very much like Brazil, although without the reveal.
