Agreed.  I watched it with my dad and during the beginning we were both shouting, "Shut your yap and tell a story already."  Ten minutes in, my dad said he was bored.  And he loved West Wing and Sports Night and incidentally, he's a TV newswriter.  He doesn't like the news of the past thing either.
