Agreed re: it's very close between Fink and Miller's. I give Fink the edge simply because it got me thinking about writing in addition to the other "what's the human condition, why do we do the things we do, I'll show you the life of the mind, etc" stuff that both Miller's and Fink got me thinking about.
I think it's their crescendo, and by that I don't mean they've been in a period of steady decline since then. I just mean that Blood Simple was great, Raising Arizona was even better, Miller's was even better and Fink was even better, and they haven't (no one has) reached the height of Barton Fink since then, though…
