Yes, but Jesse Custer isn't a real person. He's a representative of the free-thinking human mind. And God is no more a depiction of a real entity than is the Jesus kid in the cage. The God Jesse calls out is a metaphor, too, for the patriarchal "God" concept that has held such sway over Western culture. Preacher is no

Good pick, Beatnik. Damn good.

Colin Farell is Cassidy. Olymphant is Jesse.

Structurally, Preacher kind of demands to be a four- or five-part series. That depends on whether "Salvation" is included. Of course, nobody wants to bankroll a five-part series. That would suggest a TV show. But Preacher is clearly drawn to evoke cinema. Its images have a grandeur that's rare even in modern film. TV-

John Malkovitch?

You know how LOST is an allegory about humanity's relationship with God that doesn't depict God too nicely? So's Preacher. And you know how LOST engages its themes by assuming the forms of various kinds of genre fiction? Well, so does Preacher. And you know how LOST is awesome? I think you can see where I'm going with

As a huge fan of Synecdoche, NY, I can say that if you don't get it, it's not necessarily because it was too sophisticated for you. Taste is, after all, relative.

A Preacher Movie?! Great!
Joe Carnahan?! D'oh!

Yes, the Shining. I don't know how I left that off. It might be the best movie I've ever seen.

Jack's, I don't know what you've seen, so I'll just give you some general suggestions:
Alien.
David Cronenberg's The Brood, Videodrome, The Fly, and Dead Ringers represent probably the strongest horror filmography of anyone, ever.
David Lynch's Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, and Lost Highway might or might not be considered

I believe that after Knocked Up she did a bit of soul searching and realized she hasn't got one.

Oswald, tread lightly. There are Raimi fans about…

And I've recently had hope that Judy Greer was actually going to stop being America's Best Friend and do some more great work. She's phenomenal on Archer and a lead role in a big-budget Hollywood shit pile could have led her to a position of greater power when negotiating roles. Alas, the shit pile is a flop.

Owen Wilson's co-screenwriter credits on Wes Anderson's first three movies reveal him to be a far more talented person than his largely shitty filmography lets on. If nothing else, he's clearly the person who reined in Anderson's quirk and grounded it in recognizably human characters.

Quarantined in my basement, maybe. Rowww.

Drag Me to Hell did substantially better than 8th place and $7.5 mil, though. It opened to $15 mil at #4. Of course, it also had Sam Raimi's name on it.

Eh, I thought the second movie was better than its critical reception would suggest, but also significantly worse than I wanted it to be. I attribute its lack of zazz to the long time Carter spent away from the camera.

Actually, America was staying home and watching The Hard Times of R.J. Berger.

MARMADUKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does this mean my massive haul of Burger King tie-in merchandise will be worthless?!

"Quagmire" was the first episode of the series I saw. I loved it instantly.
