Was Brody a long-term teacher who grew to love kids who died in the WTC and Oklahoma City? I must've missed that part.

To me the concerns about 'where can we go from here' don't give enough creedence to the characters that were built this season. The plot was nice and all, but to me, the show succeeded because of how invested we are in Carrie and Brody (and Saul).
Forgive my ignorance on this matter, but was the show still in production when it was picked up for a second season? Is it possible they wanted some sense of finality with the memory loss thing in the event that that was the end of the series?
I was hoping his final line would be, "This is for Issa… and the virgins."
Yeah, you don't couch your Emmy-winning lead after one season.
