is the unrated cut genuinely gory? longer? i wasn't nuts about the movie, but am mildly curious as to how an r-rated version might play.

the character is probably based on babe bennett, though jason-leigh seems to be referencing the more affected actresses from that time (like rosalind russell, et al). BTW, that is one of my favorite JJ-L performances. she is just hysterically funny.
yeah, i am a HUGE fan as well. the devil and miss jones (NOT the porno) is worth looking for as well.
i've seen double suicide and liked it quite a bit. also samurai spy, which i also liked even though i didn't have the slightest idea what the fuck was going on.
the saturday puzzle is just absurd. the clues are so vague they barely qualify as clues. i don't think i've ever finished one. at this point i do okay during the week. now that fuckhead shortz is switching the friday-difficulty-level puzzle over to thursdays, i still manage to complete the thursday puzzle regularly,…
wow. 30 comments in and no one wants to talk about mr deeds or jean arthur? i absolutely ADORE jean arthur. she's one of the few actresses from that time period who seems like a real person. d'angelo refers to her as "larger than life" here, but that's exactly what she wasn't. and the fact that she wasn't is exactly…
i got about a 1/4 of it done when i realized what the hold-up was: it's a trick puzzle where a bunch of the answers have the letters "BB" in one square. the only reason i managed to figure it out (douchebag shortz did not indicate that there was a catch to that day's puzzle) is because i absolutely knew that the word…
based on personal experience, i think the saturday puzzle is the toughest one. the sunday puzzle is do-able, there's just a lot of it.
rio bravo or GTFO.
may as well have been a fucking banana peel. this movie has more "holy fuck, did that really just happen?" moments in it than just about anything else i've seen in 2013.
criterion just issued a version of this. not a bad flick and the score is fucking amazing.
are you sure you're not a friend of e buzz? not since the halcyon days of warren oates and his utterly ineffectual stalker have i seen an account like this, where a supposed antagonist makes a complete ass of him/herself with every single post.
wednesday: masahiro shinoda's pale flower. a japanese new wave film (circa '64) that fuses yakuza noir with existential fatalism. very nicely shot and generally intriguing, if not exactly great. the (criterion) disc features a good interview with the director.
i'm a little surprised that i had to scroll so far down to find a comment along these lines. jesus, it was fucking terrible. the ending (with the peanut seller coming in to strike out the obnoxious new phenom) is just beyond embarrassing.
i flagged your comment.
by "everybody" you mean a small bunch of nerds with internet access and a LOT of time on their hands.
what's frustrating about STF is that gyllenhaal and ferrell are terrific together. a less gimmicky movie about those two characters would be awesome.
true enough. lord knows, as little use as i may have for nicolas cage, i'm still going to see him whenever that new spike jonze/charlie kaufman joint comes out.
bullock seems like a really nice person and i think she does great work in comedies but i just don't have that much interest in her as a dramatic actress. and it doesn't help that she's now got a rather obvious case of "plastic surgery face" to distract a viewer.
it's odd to see you guys turn up here occasionally without the "staff" indicator.
