I only bring it up, because I read that this storyline was partly Monica Potter's idea. Therefore, I'm just saying, she shoulda gone for it. That's not to say she's not doing great work here. I will be VERY pissed if she doesn't get an Emmy nod. I can't think of a better performance this year on Television, besides

Couple of thoughts:

I think you nailed it on the head. We THOUGHT it was going to be FNL or The Wire with Country Music, and that's just not what it is. It's just a show that does have some silly soap elements, but does have great moments and genuinely good characters. Most of the characters (save Fake Time Tebow and Peggy) are not

You make some good, and valid points, VanDerWerff, but i feel like this review is very off base. As I watched last night, I was giddy, because, yes the show has gone in a different direction after the final scene of the Pilot, but this was the first episode that had some genuine excitement to it. I do feel like Avery

I actually got to see this at one of the Fathom Events screenings. It was Really great. And I would love to see Martha Plimpton tackle the role of Joanne at some point…

How was Rhianna's Trippy first song not even MENTIONED in this?

Wow, David Sims. Me and my friends who watch the show thought this was one of the stronger episodes this season, so I'm really not sure how you devised a "C+" simply on the fact that you didn't by Ricci as a comedian. Granted if they had gotten an actual comedienne it might have worked a little better, but it didn't

Is MurphChuck really as in control of it this season? I get the impression Tim Minear is steering this ship, as the Confounding Duo is busy with THREE shows at the same time. Does anyone know if there's any truth to this?

It's weird because I feel like this show could be so much stronger if it weren't on Network TV. I feel that some of these bizarre tonal issues have more to do with the crazy TV production schedule, wracking out 13 episodes as fast as they can (and probably 9 episodes after that), so the creators are forced to come up

Wait, wasn't "Punch-Drunk Love" supposed to be his attempt at "Comedy"? Until he actually sat down to write it and then shoot it?

Despite how petulant Avery continues to be, I really enjoy the Scarlett/Gunnar/Avery(/now Hayley) stuff. Mostly because of Scarlett.
