I'm going through Look Homeward, Angel, which isn't as impenetrable as I was afraid it would be.  Since I'm staying in Asheville for a while I kind of want to visit the Thomas Wolfe house, even though drunk assholes burned it down a few years ago, and it had to be rebuilt.

Tree of Life is weapons-grade Malick, and the uninitiated need to be warned about poetic voiceovers and dinosaurs.  Otherwise, they're going in expecting A River Runs Through It or something.  I say this as someone who walked out of The Thin Red Line because I was expecting Saving Private Ryan.

Spent this weekend in a fevered haze (ongoing), so I stuck exclusively to Netflix Instant and TV.

Oh, there are definitely singers that pull it off.  Akerfeldt sounds great on the heavier Opeth stuff, and there are a lot of groups that have figured out how to record vocals like either percussion, or another guitar part.

Thanks Heller.  I'm probably the target novice for this Gateway. Mid-tempo thrashy stuff is probably my favorite flavor of Metal, and I appreciated the natural-sounding vocals from these bands.  Cookie monster/cartoon villain singers are the weak link in so much modern Metal.

I usually get annoyed with lazy stereotyping of the French, but then they go and make a "whimsical" film about mimes.

Well, the movie takes place in Transylvania County, N.C. but was filmed in Transylvania, Hungary/Romania.
