Yeah, it makes the characters more relatable.. sure, the world is shit, but let's have at least a laugh or two while it all burns down around us. Deadwood did a pretty good job with that. It's pretty hard to not compare the two shows, with the whole gritty, dirty Western thing. I think this may have performed better…

Yeah.. it's pretty fucking bleak and morbid. Seems anyone who is a good person on this show gets punished. I guess that is part of the overall tone of the show, the Frontier was hard and "weak" people will get eaten alive. It's just really heavy-handed in the delivery. But three+ seasons and not a single chuckle?…
