I'm overjoyed that Permanent Records is back as a feature (hopefully for good). I have yet to venture into Christian Death, perhaps for the reasons that Flyin Hawaiian ennumerated, but stoked I am, nonetheless.

Atheist
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Kelly Shaefer doesn't play guitar on Jupiter…which would explain a lot.
CAN'T STOP THE PRESS!
"Why are you trying so hard to be what you already are?"
I always crack up when I think about this interview I read with Steele around the time Life is Killing Me came out. Steele had a shirt on that said "Ask me about my track marks" and he had drawn train tracks on the inside of his arm. He later related writing lyrics to the pain of shitting a bowling ball.
No more nights of blood and fire.
Bloody Kisses, October Rust and World Coming Down were my ultimate jams in high school. There were really no other metal/goth bands that had the dimension, humor, genuine sorrow and grotesque beauty of Type O Negative. I have some very wonderful memories of listening to October Rust…
I like wine.
I really enjoyed
the short story by Jonathan Ames that appeared in McSweeney's 24. It kind of blew my mind when I found out it was going to be a big HBO thing. The show's got a lot of cool stuff going for, if not altogether fantastic. Ted Danson is pretty hilarious, of course.
that picture
reminds me of the cover to Richard (and Linda) Thompson's "Shoot Out the Lights"
when I've showed this movie to people (fellow college students) they accused the film of being misogynistic. thank god they saw it for what it really is.
I suppose the best I could hope for is a deluxe criterion reissue that would expose the film to more people and give it the kind of treatment it deserves as a bizarre and surprisingly moving cautionary tale.

having read the section of your book about Grey Gardens as well as this review, I feel like Grey Gardens has a lot of parallels to this late sixties flop, called "The Swimmer", which doesn't even get the distinction of being a cult classic (as far as I know). Originally adapted from a John Cheever short…
"A Good Year for the Roses"
Elvis Costello does a pretty great cover of this song on his 1982 country music love letter, Almost Blue. Other choice cuts - "Brown to Blue" and both Parsons covers.
No one should be allowed to replace
Billy West.
i kind of thought
that joseph gordon levitt looked like james spader in the thumbnail version of that picture on first glance.

My Life in Dog Years
I can't tell
Whether its going to be good show or if Alexander Payne is the best thing that happened to it. I kind of hate the main character, but the poet/pimp is fantastic.
That's a pretty fucking heinous album cover. Did she design it herself?
aw damn
no "apple scruffs" :(……..
beatboxing
is like the anime of a capella groups.
I don't understand the "drubbing" of IAAY either. It's one of my favorite albums. I've listened to that record walking through a city, a forest trail, driving, etc., and it's always a great experience - it never lets me down. Sometimes you need killer "background music."
