You're right - nothing suggests Mal is an objectivist. My point was that Mal is clearly on the right of politics (he and Rand would get on just fine) whereas Whedon is on the left. He created Mal to be someone he disagreed with politically

Joss Whedonisn't an objectivist. He has specifically said that he created Mal as someone who he disagreed with so strongly that he would get into a fight with if he met him in person. In particular, he said that he basically holds the opposite of Mal's libertarian, small-government beliefs.
