This was a surprisingly good episode, but I'm not sure how much that has to do with me almost giving up on the season.
I still can't get over that fireplace poker sticking out of the Russian envoy's stomach.

That was a fireplace poker sticking out of the Russian emissary's stomach right?
I guess I will give Jack a pass.
Seriously, though, is this the point where you start questioning Jack's tactics after all the shit he has pulled over the other seasons?

Logan was pretty great in this episode. Especially in contrast to President Useless.

Valencia, schmalencia, its all overdeveloped tracts of suburbs now anyways. Too bad about the fictional Magic Mountain, though.

Ah, AV club you are so great.
Only here could you take such a gross and disturbing concept as this film and utterly deflate any sense of disgust by thoroughly mocking it.

Woah, there's a District 9 backlash? When did this happen? It was a pretty solid film. It kind of made me think me of an Achebe book mashed up with far out sci fi elements and updated with the realities of modern day immigration trends and neo-liberal globalization. If the film had a problem it might have been too

I'm pretty sure the Statue of Liberty being all shiny was an allusion to the original plan to refurbish it totally in 1986 for the centennial celebration. I don't think they raised enough funds on our side of the universe to redo the whole thing.

Good god y'all
This was a pretty great season ending and it would have even made a good series ending.
I thought Sam got a little too Emo for a moment and the overarching narration was a little saccharin at times, but only really toward the end.
The set up with the car and Sal, John buying it and the boys playing

They should have just stuck with another Kansas song. Dust in the wind would have been too melancholy but Point of no return might have fit the scene. Even a throwback like Renegade or the intro Kansas song, Carry on Wayward Son would have been cool.

Actually, I thought the key thing he saw at that moment was the toy soldier and that is what set off all the memories in his mind. Which, by the way, as far as your life flashing before your eyes before you die was a pretty great way of showing the type of emotion Sam needed to beat back Satan.

Fight the future!(?)
Wow, this episode was great but in the weird way some of these heavy mythology episodes have come to be. They just lay things on so thick it takes time to unravel all of it. Just the section that lasted from Olivia receiving the observer's clue and going to Massive Dynamics for a quick rundown on

I think they threw in every alternate state scenario into the mix just to go for broke. The larger Oklahoma one I am assuming is Sequoyah, which is kind of a famous historical anecdote.

There are a whole bunch of other ones, but I think Lincoln would have accounted for a split up Texas.

I think they made his laugh particularly creepy and forced. Their have been other times when he has given a genuine smile or a chuckle and it came off okay.

I too, suspect aliens.
I wonder if that was a throw away line or if the creators will follow up on it, you never know with this show.

Logan sold it well, or at least the actor who plays him. I was thinking I should take notes for the next time I need to grovel with some semblance of dignity or personal entitlement.

I think that's called a roman handshake. Wokka wokka.

Do boxsets count as one dvd or does each separate dvd in the set count as its own?

Is the smart money on Blockbuster folding or being bought out by another major player?

What I got from the conversation with Death was that Lucifer's summoning spell was more like a leash put on him than just opening up some doorway and calling him to service.

The film was pretty good
They kept things breezy like mentioned and any threat of heaviness was managed pretty well by the leads. I also liked the Venture Bros shout out with the world of tomorrow films with Stark's dad. Rourke was good as Vanko and Rockwell pretty much nailed all his scenes. I almost think Downey
