Thanks so much, Donna. And again, thanks for the really impressive and smart writing.

I think it's hard for some people now to understand, now that geek culture is so ascendant, just how much jock culture ruled in the not-so-distant past. I feel like telling them, "Believe it or not, there was a time when knowing the entire history of Ant-Man was not as cool as knowing how to hit a line drive."

I really love this show. I rewatch it at least once a year. And I am grateful to Donna and all of you to learn that I am not alone or obsessive or in any way weird for doing that.

I would watch the hell out of both of those shows.

I agree, but I think there was also a level of irony to that "territorial women" line. Following as it did, "my anchor," "my fiancee," and "my show."

Weird. I always thought he was wearing shorts in that section of the pilot — like "Look at me, I'm young and hip, I wear shorts instead of suit pants when I'm on TV."

I sort of think they did do that in Season 2. When Dan gives her the wine and spackle (spoilers?), he's much more formal with Dana than he is with anyone else. I see him on the outside of the Dana and Casey orbit most of the time. Dana was Casey's friend first, back in college, and Dan came later. Someone like Dan…

Yeah, I was actually discounting how much of my own language has been lifted directly from Dan Rydell/Casey McCall. To the point that I also sometimes think of their dialogue as my own original invention.

This is, as usual, a great write-up, but I have a lot more affection for these episodes if only for the great lines (and their delivery, of course):

Thanks, Wad. I appreciate it.

RE: Casey being a complete ass. I've always liked this one line of dialogue from him, because I think it's so revealing (maybe unintentionally on Sorkin's part):
