It's funny that he's so dismissive of those scenes, since I'm pretty sure it's the character development through family/intergenerational relationships that's almost universally known to drive the show, not the boy drama.
Dean clearly has a reason to feel jealous of Jess, and I know we talk about his clingyness and such every week, but his reaction when he notices Rory not wearing her bracelet is a LITTLE overdramatic. "Why aren't you wearing your bracelet? Where is it?!" Like, how could she ever, possibly have a reason not to wear it…

Not even that Girls would have fared better, but it would make room for other comedies (Parks & Rec, maybe, in my ideal world) if it was filed somewhere else. Season 1 was more comedic than season 2 though, and I can imagine those things don't flip-flop categories very easily.
@avclub-0c9de7fbac44fdcea080c61e55772199:disqus I'd probably agree. The weird thing about OITNB being called a comedy is that it's an hour long, so it has a completely different feel/pacing even than other "dramedies."
She was really great on Mad Men, too. I'd be thrilled if either of them won.
Yes! "Simon & Marcy"s nomination is my favorite nomination.
@avclub-cd3695fb409b3ce6dc60ca44b08983ac:disqus Seriously. It's a shame it premiered just a little too late this year, I think it would have contributed considerably to the netflix sweep.
I do agree with you there. Though my biggest thing with Modern Family is the sweep of actor noms. I mean, THREE supporting actor spots? Really? And Sofia Vergara? I might consider her the least funny part of the show.
And Orange is the New Black, which will be eligible next year and is in that weird hybrid place, too.
@disqus_5iPX2cyzfR:disqus I mean, that soul-crushing scream/cry/groan alone when you could tell she'd already died inside.
Seriously, BUNHEADS IN CHOREOGRAPHY. It doesn't help that the av club article about it almost convinced me it could happen.
I can't help but wonder what Girls would have made room for, if there was somewhere it fit better than the Comedy category. I like the show, but I'm not sure I'd call this season comedy.
I looked it up too, partly because I was overwhelmed/unclear and partly because I wasn't ready to not have some connection to the world anymore. I also almost immediately went back and restarted the first one because I missed Rapture, though I abandoned that and now haven't touched it for a couple months. I think I…
I think my most favorite thing about him is how QUICKLY his stories go (and this is especially true when he's reading them) from belly-laugh hilarious to intensely emotional. He can have an audience laughing so hard it drowns him out, then in seconds flat he ends the story on an emotional note that almost makes you…
I think it's pretty well-known here, but then, I had a weird obsession with the Oliver! soundtrack sometime around middle school, I believe without even having seen the show yet. Don't even know where I got it. So I might have some weird sort of confirmation bias.
I'm thinking it's a more dramatic/crazy plot point than they'll actually go through with, but being familiar with the theory after last week, I definitely felt a weird sense of suspense/foreboding, leading up to Roger? telling Don "good thing you didn't go home first" and Don telling Dawn to "get my wife on the phone"…
Ok, I didn't want to be the first one to bring up not only animated crushes but animated ANIMAL crushes, but yeah. Developed my thing for accents and that cavalier, mischievous attitude pretty early.
@avclub-284452bdab5c8151f9f079dc367ceb6b:disqus He charges them for food at least once in season 2, but it's clearly only a device to set up the scene where Rory chats up Jess at the cash register and Dean looks on jealously (and Lorelai a bit bitterly) from outside.
