No.  I think, if anything, Louis is the one who reminds them all that what they're doing is illegal and will get them all disbarred, then finds some loophole to actually get him into Harvard, then 3 year flash forward.

At first I agreed, but the more I thought about it the more it made sense.  Sure, he was being a jerk, but it's not like they were in college and deciding where to go next.  They're adults who have both put down roots in NYC, and she had the option of staying around with a very good school that's in town (that being

You're expecting someone to die on the finale of Newsroom also?  I thought I was the only one who sees that twist coming a mile away.

Bruce is a snake.  A literal snake.

Eh, maybe it's just the firms and partners that I've worked for (litigation associate in three NYC firms since 2008), but the non-hardasses (and there are plenty of those) have been eccentric.  The cat stuff is a bit much, sure, but it's tv.  Still in character for Louis I'd say.

Law firm partners, especially super smart ones who work in super high stress environments, are very often very eccentric people.  Plus you add the fact that Louis is single (we've only ever seen him date one woman, right?) he's got a lot of stress in his life with not much of an outlet for it.  He even said that he

It was an accident that she found it.  She was actually trying to order a pizza the entire time.  After she discovered it she just started yelling "pepperoni! pizza!" at the computer until someone came by and gave her a slice.

Problem with that one is that we didn't get the 360 degree view.  All the strippers are just behind the camera.

@avclub-56dfc41867dc4d05e285222c24c4e7c2:disqus I couldn't name any of them, but the partners that I was talking to knew of 2.  I don't know how it would happen that they could be so absent minded for such a long time, but I suppose with a transactional atty it's entirely possible that you could hide the fact that

Let's not kid ourselves.  He's not waiting patiently.

I wonder how the bar examiners would handle a cheating scandal.  I imagine that if he were to have actually gotten into a law school with it on his record that the bar wouldn't care that much.  A senior associate in my practice group was arrested a bunch of times in his teens and early twenties and still was admitted

I don't know, I'd think that stealing an exam and selling it would be expellable offenses, or even if not that bad I can't imagine that Harvard would still let him in.

Ok, so if you ever get picked up by the cops, be sure to waive your right to an attorney and talk to the cops at length.  I hope your innocence alone actually protects you.

@avclub-70f6dcc28ef8fc282b0c969e75d9bdfc:disqus That's right.  The State isn't likely going to be the party examining the cases.  It'll take either someone in a public defender's office (ha! as if they have time to breathe much less reexamine old cases) or private attorneys.

I really can't tell if you're being serious or just fucking around, but I can't fucking stand that attitude.  Fuck people who think that the accused don't deserve a defense just because they've decided the person is guilty.  Everyone gets a defense, 'cause otherwise we have mob rule, and we've seen how well that shit

That's a fair point.  Ineffective assistance of counsel arguments are incredibly difficult to win.  If your counsel was high, however, there's a pretty high chance that the assistance was ineffective and your case should be reexamined.

Don't think of the criminal justice system as designed to put criminals in prison, but rather as a way to prevent the innocent from being subjected to the full power of the State.  Societies will find ways to punish the guilty (albeit brutal, inefficient and largely ineffective ways), but our system, and the
